Cooking Oil: It’ll be used to oil the griddle and brush the crust of the pizza, giving it a delicious golden-brown finish.

Pizza Dough: You’ll need pizza dough to create the base of your pizza. You can also make your own dough from scratch using a recipe or purchase pre-made dough from a grocery store.

Pizza Sauce: Choose a flavorful pizza sauce. You can find ready-made pizza sauce in most grocery stores, or you can make your own by blending tomatoes, herbs, and spices. Marinara sauce will also work.

Cheese: Choose your favourite type of cheese or a combination of cheeses to add that gooey, melty goodness to your pizza. I usually use mozzarella but it’s up to you.

Cornmeal: Cornmeal adds a delicious flavour to the crust and enhances the overall taste of the pizza. It’s an optional ingredient, but I’ll suggest you try it once. I can say with surety you’ll be amazed.

Pizza Peel: A pizza peel is essential for transferring the pizza onto and off the griddle. It makes handling the pizza much easier and helps prevent any mishaps.

Pizza Wheel: A pizza wheel also known as a pizza cutter is used for slicing the the crust and toppings of a pizza neatly. The sharp, circular blade of the pizza wheel will glide through the crust, creating clean slices without disturbing the toppings. But it is an optional tool. If you don’t have it, just use a sharp knife for slicing.

Cooking Dome: You will need a cooking dome to melt the cheese on the top of the pizza. If you don’t have a dome, don’t worry. A disposable aluminium pan in your kitchen can also come in handy to use as a cooking dome.

Once you have all these items prepared, you’ll be ready to embark on your Blackstone pizza-making adventure!

How to Cook Pizza on Blackstone

Now it’s time to start making delicious homemade griddle pizza.

First of all, preheat your griddle to medium-high heat (approximately 350 degrees) and allow it to heat up for about 5 minutes. This ensures that the cooking surface is hot enough to create a crispy crust.

While the griddle is preheating, prepare your pizza dough. As I mentioned above, you can make the dough at home too, but I will recommend you buy it from the market. It will save you time and not much effort. Try to make small-size pizza dough because it’ll be easier to handle.

Dust your work surface with cornmeal to prevent sticking. Take your pizza dough and start shaping it into your desired pizza size and thickness. Use a rolling pin to gently stretch and shape the dough. Try to make the dough neither too thin nor too thick. If the dough is too thin, it will become hard and if it is too thick, it will remain raw during cooking. This is just for when you make the dough yourself at home.

Now it’s time to brown the toppings on low heat. But remember you should not over-fry them.

By now the griddle should be preheated, drizzle a small amount of oil onto the cooking surface and spread it evenly using a brush. The oil helps prevent sticking and adds flavour to the crust. Now carefully place the pizza dough on the heated surface with a pizza peel or spatula and leave it for 3 to 5 minutes. When the bottom is browned well, flip it over and brown the other side in exactly the same way.

Spread a thin layer of pizza sauce evenly over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges of the crust. Then, add your desired toppings such as vegetables, meats, or herbs and finally add cheese.

If you have a cooking dome, place it over the pizza to create an oven-like environment. This helps to evenly cook the toppings and melt the cheese. If you don’t have a cooking dome, just use a disposable aluminium pan.

Allow the pizza to cook for approximately 8-10 minutes or until the bottom turns golden brown and crispy, and the cheese is melted and bubbly. Keep an eye on the pizza to prevent burning. You may rotate it or adjust the heat as needed to ensure even cooking.

Congratulations, your pizza is ready. Remove it from the griddle and make the slices.
